Why I wrote Certainty
Several of you have asked me why I wrote Certainty. At this stage in my life, it’s not for fame or fortune; my passion is to spread the word about discoveries that will help you lead with less stress and more effectively.
In my twenty-year journey to write this, I made my most significant leap when I suspended everything I had learned about leadership and management from West Point, Harvard Business School, and corporate training to focus on human nature.
For example, why is it so hard for leaders to spur employees to change? People cling to the status quo and resist change, but on the other hand, they sometimes embrace change and do wonderous things, from space exploration to technological innovation.
What actions do leaders take to get inside people's minds to free them from change resistance and boost human performance? It’s certainly not by reorganizing.
I picked the title because certainty is the secret to this magical transformation. Great leaders act in ways that create a sense of certainty in employees’ minds. That unleashes them from innate resistance, and they become motivated, more innovative, and perform better.
I present these leadership tips and techniques in the book. I hope the book makes a difference in your life and you pass it on to others.
After two decades in the making, Certainty: How Great Bosses Can Change Minds and Drive Innovation is out now and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
